“5 stars. Swinging like a Bolshevik Marlene Dietrich, Zulya and the Children of the Underground are able to strike a deft balance between melancholic sadness and the unbridled joy that is never too far away. ”— Songlines, UK
On Love and Science the group's most ambitious work to date. This limited edition CD is released as a larger format hardback cover story book featuring stunning artwork by Dilka Bear (Kazakhstan/Slovenia).

"While Mikelangelo’s voice guides the listener through the album, the grand vision of City Of Dreams includes a number of guest vocalists and producers; from the dreamy vocals of The Nymphs on BEAUTY, through to the gritty delivery of Stu Thomas in WALKING, the cooing innocence of Tali as she duets with Mikelangelo in STREETS, to the intimate whispers of Rob Snarski’s satin vocals that weave in and out of Mikelangelo’s warm, deep tones in TONIGHT. The album also features additional production by Myles Mumford, Loki Lockwood and Miles Brown, giving the album a rich and varied sound that has been satisfyingly resolved into a seamless whole by the Frankel brothers. " There was a project out of Melbourne called the Raah Project… I couldn’t believe how good it was – it was definitely up there and beyond. It was a bit of Matthew Herbert, a little bit of Sa-Ra Creative Partners, but with its own melodic Australian vibe going on."

"These Danzas are miniatures—nearly all are thirty-two bar tunes in two parts, the prima (A section) and the segunda (B section), rhythmically anchored by the cinquillo, and only a couple exceed two minutes in length. The effect of listening to the entire disc is akin to dining on tapas.” -Tom Caw

"If there is a distinctly Tasmanian jazz sound, this Hobart quartet’s debut album may lay claim to it, with some titles of guitarist Julius Schwing‘s originals adding a rural or bush feel. The Owl Song, Potbelly Stove in a Bark Hut, A Good Paddock and Jackson’s Track have a lingering feel that could evoke musings around a camp fire or long gazes across wide landscapes." Roger Mitchell

"The thing is, this EP is really moving, if your after a track that’s going to get you up and in the mood, it’s not the wisest choice, but if you feel something that’s going to make you pause and think on some of the more melancholic moments in our lives, this is the best company." -All I Do Is Listen

“…. one of the most stunning debuts in recent memory. Expertly treading the fine line between alt. country and a kind of folksy soul, richly evocative songwriting and simple storytelling, autobiography and universality, and melody and discord. This is both art of the highest order and a good, old-fashioned, down and dirty fun record to listen to…. In addition to the regular four-piece line-up of the band, producer Myles Mumford has expertly woven instrumentation including brass, strings, banjo, Hammond organ and a 100 year-old-grand piano into a listening experience that rewards repeat playings like the re-reading of a classic novel.” - TONY McMAHON - INPRESS

"The most powerful impression came from New York-based Australian pianist Barney McAll. His visionary new work Graft (featuring two pianos, vibraphone and a 16-voice choir) combined soulful grooves, electronics, ethereal harmonies and exquisite lyricism". SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

Whilst on assignment in Swaziland I worked with more than 20 artists to create an album addressing positive social change. From young artists to some of the most famous artists in Swaziland this album was a real privilege to produce and it was recorded, mixed and mastered in the studio I designed and built with local labour in Swaziland.
You can hear the album here and buy a copy to support the work of Lusweti as they bring health education to the youth and the wider Swazi community.
”ROUSSEMOFF‘s raison d’être could just be to remind us that without the goofy iconograpy and semiotic baggage there is something quite compelling and vital about metal. The three-piece smelt metal down to its essentials and pour it out like lava.” - Kane Daniel (The Thousands - Melbourne City Guide)

"The Lift Equation is a nod to the theory of flight. The title track, which takes its inspiration from the Wright brothers early attempts at flight…is an uplifting, delicate piece of musical engineering where the violin soars gently to its highest sonic altitude….The Lift Equation has the musical formula to indeed take the listener to a higher plane.”

"Lamplight is all in the moment of sheer fucking frisson that grows from a gruff bastard. The Melbourne based post-rockers have followed up spectacularly from their folky debut to release a self-titled album bathed in strings, floaty guitar harmonics and unique, fascinating ambience. "The highlight of this release, “Red Road”, features rather striking female vocalist Jane Hendry up front and personal. An incredibly intimate and gripping ballad, featuring sublime use of piano and acoustic theatrics, this has a beguiling slow build and burn to it. This is the type of track that can totally make you fall in love with a band and singer, with such a personal and haunting vibe to it, you feel a bit guilty listening to it, like you’re in someone’s bedroom while they are playing away with some utterly beautiful music.” Neil Evans, Tonedeaf

"Taedium Vitae (Latin for ”the weariness of life”) is Phillips’ second album, following 2010’s equally beguiling Varning. Don’t be fooled by the metal cover art; this is sparse, acoustic folk that’s at turns rousing, bleak, beautiful and dour. When Phillips’ warble wraps around the pedal steel on Only You (And The Lord), you know you’re in the presence of a rare artist.”

"This was no doubt going to be a love or hate relationship: me versus the undefinable, unpredictable and essentially left-of-the-curve Aimee Chapman, or Osh10. What I didn’t expect however was that I would be teetering on the side of love, with the exception of but a few tracks. Bearing in mind the raw production and obvious ‘90s garage electronica influence, Osh10 produces experimental melodies that encompass femininity and walk the line between irritatingly quirky and perfectly unique. "Once again the Key of Sea brings together Australia’s finest established artists and musicians who have brought their musical heritage from across the oceans seeking a better life in this nation. The message of the record is no different from the 2010 release. It doesn’t seek to break stereotypes. It starts from the position that stereotypes are unimportant. It then simply showcases the extraordinary talents of some extraordinary Australians and, through the medium of music, introduces both new sounds and the people that created them."

‘My Fave: My favorite this month is the unusual osh 10, that combines creative bass with the amazing vocals of Aimee Chapman. Using loops and effects, osh10 creates a full band sound. Her delivery is very much her own, but it is reminiscent of Bjork or Canada’s Ember Swift, and her lyrics are pure poetry, dealing with relationships and inner awareness rather than Swift’s social-consciousness. This is definitely a group to watch.’- Skope Magazine

“Squalls is one of those terrifically auspicious yet inherently rare debut albums. It possesses a dark brilliance, and produces imagery of a terrifying yet sublime storm of emotion. There is no low point in its progression. It is a startlingly mature debut album, and it deserves much praise. The remarkable musicianship shown by Howl At The Moon is a credit to the band; they will no doubt gain many fans in the years to come.”

Karaoke – a collection of Australian songs by the likes of Colin Hay, The Reels, Hello Satellites, Silverchair, Nick Cave, The Parrots and Togye. Karaoke continues Origami’s use of popular songwriting as inspiration but with a view to exploring Australian songs.
‘Origami, with masterly technique, embraces some of the most vital aspects of jazz tradition and yet has an utterly contemporary relevance. Swing, groove, interplay, self-expression, and in the example of past masters such as Rollins, has embraced pop without compromising artistic integrity.’ Peter Wockner – Limelight Magazine

"In a way, this album reminds me of Sonny Rollins’s Way out West when the emerging titan, back in 1957 used only saxophone, bass and drums to transform some of the most unlikely simple themes into sophisticated jazz. Simmons, a genuine multi-instrumentalist, chooses only alto saxophone and achieves similar feats…" 5 stars, Peter Wockner - Limelight
